Valerie Couture stepped into leadership of the firm in 2024 with a deep sense of responsibility, determined to honor the legacy of her predecessors while guiding the practice into its next chapter. Drawing on years of legal experience and a strong understanding of the firm’s values, she preserved its commitment to integrity, rigorous advocacy, and client trust. At the same time, Valerie brought fresh perspective and steady confidence, ensuring continuity without stagnation. By respecting the foundation laid before her and building thoughtfully upon it, she proved that the firm’s tradition of excellence would not only endure, but continue to grow under her direction.
Valerie’s practice includes all estate matters, including estate planning, estate administration and estate litigation. She also handles business law as well as real estate transactions.
Valerie completed her undergraduate studies at the University of Ottawa before attending the University of Queensland in Brisbane, Australia where she completed her Bachelor of Laws and Graduate Diploma in Practical Legal Training. She was admitted to the Supreme Court of Queensland as a lawyer in 2012 and practiced law in Brisbane, Australia until her relocation to Edmonton. Valerie was admitted to the Court of Queen’s Bench in Alberta in May 2018.
While completing her Bachelor of Laws, Valerie completed an internship in a human rights office in Cape Town, South Africa where she assisted clients with refugee matters as well as domestic issues ranging from divorce to domestic abuse. During her years as a lawyer in Brisbane, Valerie also volunteered with the Women’s Legal Service Centre, a centre providing free legal and social work services for women in the areas of family law, child support, domestic violence and child protection.
Valerie is fluent in French and is a member of the French speaking lawyers association Membre de l’Association des juristes d’expression française de l’Alberta.
